Neuroscientists at Boston University recently published their findings in Science magazine, concluding that sleep cleanses the brain of toxic waste products of metabolism accumulated during the day. This helps answer the question of why sleep is necessary, and why sleep deprivation leads to so many known physical problems. Without this daily rinse cycle, waste products could build up, leading to neurodegenerative diseases and other health issues. They found that, during sleep, large waves of cerebrospinal fluid flow into and out of the brain every 20 seconds, a process thought to remove waste. The inward flow was preceded by patterns of slow waves of electrical activity, called delta waves. This is brainwashing we can be happy about! healthimpactnews.com

Holiday Diet Tip: If there's a party at work, you don't have to miss out on the camaraderie. Instead, bring a healthy dish to share. Or eat before the party so you can say: "No, thank you; I just ate and I'm full." You could also follow the "take and toss" rule: Take a small piece of cake, enjoy a few bites, and then toss it. (If necessary, do the tossing in the privacy of your office or in some other discreet location.) webmd.com

The health of Santa Claus is critical which is why he gets his spine checked, too! He cannot be coming down with the flu, some sniffle, or a backache. Not to mention that Santa’s work is tough. During the weeks before Christmas he is making more appearances than the President. He has countless kids coming to sit on his lap, lift-twist-bend-lift. He has to stay mentally sharp as well, all night he is going over lists of paperwork, and checking them twice. One of the great things about chiropractic care is that there are no drugs involved. No pills, no potions, no lotions, just results. You wouldn’t want Santa to be flying around the world on pain medication would you? One bad landing on a snowy roof and it’s all over. And speaking of snow, have you ever tried walking on a snow topped roof and then climbed down a chimney? Try doing it several million times in one night. Make no mistake about it, Santa’s health is important. And don’t forget to get your adjustments before Christmas day since many chiropractors will be away on the weekend making sure Santa is safe and well adjusted. Happy Holidays to you all! planetc1.com

Avocados are rich in healthy, satisfying fats and have been proven in one study to lower cholesterol by about 22%. One avocado has more than half the fiber and 40% of the folate you need daily, which may reduce your risk of heart disease. Healthy eating tip: Adding avocados to your salad can increase the absorption of key nutrients like beta-carotene by three to five times compared with salads without this healthy food. shape.com
