A study published in the online journal Science Signaling showed that depriving cancer cells of sugar can trigger a reaction that causes those cancer cells to die. In the study, researchers found that when cancer cells are deprived of sugar, this causes a reaction across the cancer cell membrane and leads to an increased intake of calcium ions into the cells, which causes them to die. For the study, they used two cancer cells: one that contained extra glucose (sugar) and the other, which didn't. Both samples were then exposed to a "two-pronged attack." The first one was with a compound that inhibits glucose transport into cells, and the second one was with thapsigargin, which increases the level of calcium in cells. The team found out the cancer cells that had that extra glucose in them were unaffected but, those with limited glucose reserves were killed off. Initial tests in the study showed that depriving cancer cells of sugar and increasing the body's calcium levels managed to destroy cancer cells while leaving the healthy ones unharmed. Also, only certain types of cancer cells were noted to have lost the capacity to maintain intercellular sugar levels after the treatment. Researchers believe that this only applies to cells which are sensitive to sugar deprivation. naturalnews.com

Persistent forward head posture (FHP) puts compressive loads on the upper part of the mid back section. It's also associated with the development of Upper Thoracic Hump, which can lead to Dowager Hump when the vertebrae develop compression fractures (anterior wedging). A recent study found this hyperkyphotic posture was associated with a greater rate of mortality. In cause-specific mortality analyses, hyperkyphotic posture was specifically associated with an increased rate of death due to atherosclerosis (plaque buildup). It's not uncommon to observe 2 inches of forward head placement in new patients. Would you be surprised that your neck and shoulders hurt if you had a 20-pound watermelon hanging around your neck? That's what forward head posture (FHP) can do to you. Left uncorrected, FHP will continue to worsen. Chiropractic can be very corrective, if caught early enough. Our specialty is in reversing the joint fixations (subluxations) and in re-invigorating the muscles that normally retract the head. Who do you know that could benefit from better posture? chiro.org
