According to a new study people who exercise regularly have a better chance of surviving COVID-19 compared to those who move less. The British Journal of Sports Medicine found that COVID-19 patients who regularly exercise, compared to people who are consistently inactive, have a lower chance of being hospitalized, requiring ICU care and dying from the coronavirus. Doctors who led the study at Kaiser Permanente Southern California included 48,440 subjects who were diagnosed with COVID-19 between Jan. and Oct. 2020. They asked them how often they'd exercised over the previous two years. They measured answers by the Exercise Vital Sign. The most recent version of this recommends that on a weekly basis, adults do 150 minutes to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes to 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise, with additional guidelines for strength training. The findings showed that people who were "consistently inactive," (exercising anywhere from zero to 10 minutes per week) had a 2.26 greater chance of hospitalization, a 1.73 greater chance of ICU admission and 2.49 greater odds of death from COVID-19 compared to patients who were consistently activeIt's never too late to start! bjsm.bmj.com

Diet Tip: Don't buy prepared food: If sugar, fructose, or corn syrup is among the first four ingredients on the label, skip it. Grab a piece of fruit instead! Also, avoid partially hydrogenated foods and look for more than two grams of fiber per 100 calories in all grain products. Remember, a short ingredient list means fewer flavor enhancers and empty calories. rd.com

Many factors affect the body's ability to maintain optimal balance. Nutrition, posture, exercise, stress, and fatigue are all important, but so is the health of your spine. Studies are finding that chiropractic care is a way to improve immunity. One study, from the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois, found that disease-fighting white blood cell counts were higher just 15 minutes after chiropractic adjustments were applied to the spine. A similar study investigated the immune system response in HIV-positive patients under chiropractic care. After six months of chiropractic care, the group receiving the chiropractic adjustments showed a 48 percent increase in white blood cell counts. Conversely, the group that did not receive chiropractic manipulation experienced a 7.96 percent decrease in immunity cells. Who do you know that could benefit from chiropractic care? psychologytoday.com

Pineapples are a great way to cleanse and detoxify your system. This tropical delight contains bromelain, a digestive enzyme that helps cleanse your colon and improve digestion. Excessive inflammation, excessive coagulation of the blood, and certain types of tumor growth may all be reduced by the bromelain in pineapples. Two molecules isolated from an extract of crushed pineapple stems have even shown promise in fighting cancer growth. healthyaeon.com
