"If the brain expects that a treatment will work, it sends healing chemicals into the bloodstream, which facilitates that. That's why the placebo effect is so powerful for every type of healing. And the opposite is equally true and equally powerful: When the brain expects that a therapy will not work, it doesn't. It's called the 'nocebo' effect."

A study reveals that when former smokers increase their intake of tomatoes and fruit, especially apples, the decreased capacity of their lung function begins to lessen and may even be restored. A similar diet not only may slow the aging process that would normally take place in the lungs of former smokers, but actually in anyone, even if they’ve never smoked. Lung function is one of the most important factors regarding mortality, for both patients with lung disease and those who’ve never smoked, and preventing chronic respiratory diseases is a significant public health objective. While it’s true that apples are a healthy food, moderation is key. As the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) notes, the amounts of fruit you should eat per day vary depending on certain factors: Children under 8 - 1 to 1 1/2 cups per day; Children and teens - 1 1/2 to 2 cups of fruit per day; Women age 19 to 30 - 2 cups per day, while women older than 30 - 1 1/2 cups per day; Men of any age - 2 cups of fruit per day.

Tidbit #3: Diet Tip

Put less food out and you’ll take less in. The more food in front of you, the more you’ll eat… regardless of how hungry you are. So instead of using regular dinner plates that range these days from 10 to 14” (making them look empty if they’re not heaped with food), serve your main course on salad plates (about 7 to 9” wide). Instead of 16-ounce glasses and oversized coffee mugs, return to the old days of 8-ounce glasses and 6-ounce coffee cups

Chiropractic Boosts Antioxidants! Researchers looked at 23 subjects ranging in age from 26 to 50 who suffered with chronic pain in their backs or necks. Each subject received chiropractic adjustments twice a week for a period of five weeks to see what effect, if any, this type of care had on the subjects' antioxidant activity. Blood samples were taken both before and after the chiropractic sessions. The participants were checked for three specific antioxidant levels: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). All three of these are known to provide protection to your cells against free radicals which can cause oxidation of cells (like rust on metal). Researchers discovered that while the participant's levels of activity of the antioxidant catalase didn't change after just over a month of chiropractic care, the activity levels of both SOD and GPx did. This suggests that undergoing regular chiropractic care can boost the function of antioxidants in your body, thus providing you greater protection from major medical conditions and issues. It’s not about your back… it’s about your health!

Fennel is low in calories but rich in nutrients linked to many health benefits. The fennel bulb is a good source of potassium, sodium, phosphorus, and calcium. Research shows that fennel seeds may have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antiviral effects. A recent review found that digesting these seeds may also stimulate prolactin to help mothers naturally produce breast milk. Fennel tea may aid digestion and other gastrointestinal issues such as heartburn, bloating, loss of appetite, and colic in infants.
