In order to tell a new-and-improved story about your physical experience, you must spend time thinking and speaking about the experience you would like to live. The most powerful thing you can do, the thing that will give you much greater leverage than any action, is to spend time (about 15 minutes to start) every day visualizing your life as you want it to be.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed revoking its regulation authorizing the nationwide use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) as an additive in food. The FDA’s decision comes after California banned the ingredient in October by passing the CA Food Safety Act, the first state law in the U.S. to ban brominated vegetable oil. This additive is already banned in Europe and Japan. The use of BVO in food is no longer considered safe after the results of studies conducted in collaboration with the National Inst. of Health. They found the potential for adverse health effects in humans. Brominated vegetable oil is modified by bromine, a pungent, deep red oily chemical. It is used as an emulsifier in citrus-flavored beverages to keep the flavoring from separating and floating to the top. Bromine is also commonly used in flame retardants.

Many people are surprised to learn that their bodies have the ability to heal themselves. In fact, your miraculous human body is constantly changing and adapting. Throughout your life, virtually all the cells of the body are in a continual state of growth. When old cells are worn away, they die and are replaced by brand new ones. Chiropractors respect the factual knowledge that it is the body that does the healing and that the job of the doctor is to help the patient by removing barriers to healing. The focus of chiropractic is on the spine and nervous system. The nervous system is the control, communication, and coordination system of your body. The job of the brain is to monitor, run, and control the functions in your body, and it uses the spinal cord and nerves of the body as its communication lines. As long as the brain and nervous system are able to communicate with the body without any interference, the body can function at a higher level.

If you’re feeling lethargic, just the smell of peppermint can mentally perk you up. A study has linked peppermint to greater alertness, performance, and motivation by serving as a central nervous system stimulant. Having a bottle of peppermint oil on hand and sniffing it whenever you’re feeling sluggish may help. According to the Univ. of MD Medical Center, peppermint improves the flow of bile by calming down the muscles of the stomach. Once this happens, food can pass more freely and quickly through the stomach. This can also cut down on gas, bloating, and diarrhea.
