As more and more infant foods get pulled from store shelves because of heavy metal poisoning, researchers and food scientists are trying to study what, if any, implications it might have for risks for cancers and other health issues. Some of the most concerning metals that can be absorbed from the air, soil and water by food crops include cadmium, arsenic and lead. Besides foods like applesauce (from contaminated apples), scientists have found that spinach, nuts, rice and cereals also uptake heavy metals. So far, they’ve determined that lead can cause lung, kidney, bladder, stomach and brain cancers, while arsenic can cause skin, bladder, lung, kidney and liver cancers. Cadmium has moderate to high risk scores for prostate, renal, bladder, breast, pancreatic and endometrial cancers. All of the metals also carried neurological, reproductive and immunological risks, especially in children. What can you do? Buy organic and check out zeolite

Rucking is a time-tested way to sweat (the military has used it for years!) and is quickly gaining ground among exercise fanatics. It started as a military training workout involving soldiers carrying a heavy pack (rucksack) and walking for miles (ruck marching). The basics of rucking are simply to go walking or hiking with weight on your back. Start slow and work your way up in weight.

When thinking of your long-term health goals, it’s essential to understand that spinal health is about more than getting rid of pain. Spinal health has a long-term impact on every function affected by the spinal nerves, which influence every organ system in your body. Breathing is a good example. A case published in the 1980’s involved a 53 yr. old man with a 20-year history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. More than 14 months after starting chiropractic care, the amount of air he was able to forcibly exhale in one complete breath ("forced vital capacity") and the amount of air he could move in the first second of that complete breath had both improved substantially (1 liter and 0.3 liters, respectively). This case is part of a growing body of literature indicating that improved spinal health through chiropractic care is often accompanied by improved lung volumes (and so much more!). Who do you know that could benefit from chiropractic care?

Research has shown that cranberry juice binds to bacteria, preventing them from sticking to cell walls and causing urinary tract infections. Regular cranberry juice consumption can reduce the risk of stomach cancer and ulcers in some people by killing the H. pylori bacteria. Your teeth can even benefit from cranberries. A compound in the fruit known as proanthocyanidine, can prevent plaque from forming on teeth
