To clear your mind and get your mental house in order: Take deep breaths to calm yourself. Deep breathing as a relaxation technique is a well-documented way to regain some mental clarity. It increases the oxygen levels in your body and the brain benefits from more oxygen.

A public-private partnership will soon see one of the world’s largest nuclear waste treatment facilities begin operations, as liquid and solid waste is turned into large bricks of non-radioactive glass. The Hanford nuclear cleanup site in Washington state (commissioned by the Dept. of Energy and built by Bechtel National) takes nuclear waste and mixes it with traditional glass-forming materials at high temperatures to make solid glass that can be safely stored underground. Some people are concerned about the environmental and human health risks of nuclear power plants, but a much greater risk yet less discussed over the years, has come from all the plutonium produced for nuclear warheads during the Cold War. The first of the 300-ton melters is slated to be operational next year.

Holiday meals are typically rich in carbs but low in protein. Eating protein with meals may automatically reduce calorie intake by reducing hunger and appetite. Try to include at least 1 ounce (25–30 grams) of protein in each meal. Good sources of protein include meat, poultry, fish, and some plant foods like beans and quinoa.

Our bodies are equipped with the amazing capability to self-heal by preventing and repairing damage done to the body. One powerful strategy to enhance this ability for our bodies to self-heal is chiropractic care. The complex network of activity that controls all functions within the body, including healing, is the central nervous system which consists of the brain and spinal cord. When the spinal bones are improperly aligned this causes a physical form of nerve stress that adversely impacts the body’s healing potential. Poor posture degrades the health of the spine and consequently leads to the degrading of the health of brain and organ function. Misalignment of the spine is called vertebral subluxation. Receiving frequent chiropractic adjustments helps to alleviate the built up pressure on the nervous system. As a result, the body is able to heal as it was intended. Who do you know that could benefit from chiropractic care?
