Tidbit #1: Practice Mindfulness

When you focus on the here and now rather than the past or future, you open yourself up to better enjoying each day and new experience. Focus on finding pleasure in all the small moments throughout your day and consciously choose to acknowledge them.

Scientists have discovered a new way to destroy cancer cells. Stimulating aminocyanine molecules with near-infrared light caused them to vibrate in sync, enough to break apart the membranes of cancer cells. The research teams from several U.S. universities, say the new approach is a marked improvement over another kind of cancer-killing molecular machine previously developed. These researchers are calling them molecular jackhammers. They are more than one million times faster in their mechanical motion than the former Feringa-type motors, and they can be activated with near-infrared light rather than visible light. The use of near-infrared light is important because it enables scientists to get deeper into the body. Cancer in bones and organs could potentially be treated without needing surgery to get to the cancer growth. In tests on lab-grown cancer cells, the molecular jackhammer method scored a 99% rate at destroying the cells. The approach was also tested on mice with melanoma tumors, and half the animals became cancer-free.

Tidbit #3: Lift Weights

Because muscle uses more calories than fat, strengthening your muscles will make you into a more efficient calorie-burning machine, even when you're at rest. You'll be doing more than just helping your metabolism. Your heart, bones, and even your mood will benefit. It's a win all around.

This is a case study of a 58 yr.-old female patient with a medical diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and upper back pain. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease one year before seeing a chiropractor. Over a one-year period, she was seen once a week. The patient was evaluated and her spine was adjusted for vertebral subluxations. The patient’s improvements included increased muscle strength and increased cervical range of motion. She also reported improvements of the resting tremor and weakness of the right arm. The patient was able to return to performing daily walks for exercise. Conclusion: Chiropractic care may decrease the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease leading to a better quality of life for the patient. Further research is needed to explore the connection between chiropractic care and the role it has in the co-management of patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Chronic inflammation is one of the leading drivers of many serious diseases including heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease and even obesity. Pomegranates have potent anti-inflammatory properties, which are largely caused by punicalagins (a major active component of this fruit). Test-tube studies have shown that pomegranates can reduce inflammatory activity in the digestive tract, as well as in breast cancer and colon cancer cells.
