Scientists have discovered a new way to destroy cancer cells. Stimulating aminocyanine molecules with near-infrared light caused them to vibrate in sync, enough to break apart the membranes of cancer cells. Aminocyanine molecules are already used in bioimaging as synthetic dyes. Commonly used in low doses to detect cancer, they stay stable in water and are very good at attaching themselves to the outside of cells. "It is a whole new generation of molecular machines that we call molecular jackhammers," said chemist James Tour from Rice Univ. In tests on cultured, lab-grown cancer cells, the molecular jackhammer method scored a 99% hit rate at destroying the cells. The approach was also tested on mice with melanoma tumors, and half the animals became cancer-free. It's still early in the research, but these initial findings are very promising. This is also the kind of straightforward, biomechanical technique that cancer cells would find it hard to evolve some sort of blockade against.

There is a growing body of evidence that wellness care provided by doctors of chiropractic may reduce health care costs, improve health behaviors, and enhance patient perceived quality of life. Until recently, however, little was known about how chiropractic adjustments affected the chemistry of biological processes on a cellular level. In a landmark study published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR), chiropractors collaborating with researchers at the Univ. of Lund, Sweden found that chiropractic care could influence basic physiological processes affecting oxidative stress and DNA repair. These findings offer a scientific explanation for the positive health benefits reported by patients receiving chiropractic care. Who do you know who could benefit from chiropractic care?
